The Primary Care Team at Prince of Wales Hospital provides person centered care in the community setting of the Randwick Botany Local Government Areas. We are seeking a temporary full time Clinical Nurse Consultant for extended leave relief from July 2021 until June 2022. You will be working closely with both registered and enrolled nurses supervising the delivery of Nursing Care to clients with clinical issues pertaining to chronic disease and wound management.

The Prince of Wales Hospital is a major teaching hospital based in Sydney's eastern suburbs that serves all of New South Wales. The hospital is situated close to the city, Bondi Beach, excellent shopping facilities, and within walking distance to Coogee Beach.

We are affiliated with the University of NSW, one of the premier medical teaching facilities in Australia. This assists us to provide excellence in care in conjunction with our commitment to clinical teaching and medical research.

Currently the NSW Government is investing $720 million to redevelop the Prince of Wales Hospital and progress the vision of Randwick as a world-leading centre for health and wellbeing, research, education and teaching. An Acute Services Building will be built in Stage 1 including a new adult emergency department, extra beds, intensive care unit, and new operating theatres for the campus.

More than just a new hospital building, this major redevelopment will transform how we deliver health services at Randwick. This facility will enable us to continue to attract and retain the best nurses, doctors and support staff and meet the changing health needs of our community. The redevelopment expands opportunities for cutting-edge health research, world first treatments and improved patient outcomes.

What you'll be doing The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant Community Chronic and Complex Care/ Wound Management is responsible for working closely with both registered and enrolled nurses supervising the delivery of Nursing Care to clients with clinical issues pertaining to chronic disease and wound management.
The CNC will work with registered nurses, clients and clients' carers to identify any actual or potential risks, develop care plans that address these risks and those goals identified by the client.

The CNC will support the nursing staff by following defined clinical pathways and point of care advice. The CNC will continue to develop and review wound management pathways and protocols in accordance with the latest research and best practice principles, including developing clinical outcome measures. The CNC will develop and lead a quality project on wound management.

The CNC liaises with other clinical experts involved in the clinical care of clients. The CNC participates in hospital wide committees that relate to wound management. The CNC will offer point of care clinical advice to the registered and enrolled nurses and act as an escalation pathway in the community setting.

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and current NSW Drivers License 
  2. Minimum five years full time equivalent post graduate qualification experience and a post graduate qualification relevant to community nursing / wound management.
  3. Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
  4. Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and knowledge of the practice development framework to clinical practice.
  5. Demonstrated involvement in the development/change of clinical practice underpinned by evidence based research.
  6. Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning.
  7. Proven skills in clinical teaching, the identification of education needs in the clinical area, and competency in the use of contemporary information systems.
  8. Ability to apply clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy with the ability to work independently.
