The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity to establish a New Zealand specific role as Health Economics and Pricing Manager as a key member of the Janssen organisation in New Zealand. As the Health Economics and Pricing Manager, you will drive our commercial evaluation, health economics analysis and assessment of projects for Pharmac reimbursement submissions, new pharmaceutical innovations and in-line products to secure earlier and wider reimbursement for Janssen products. You will work together with the team to identify and capitalise key drivers and opportunities for product and market development.

Key Responsibilities

As the Health Economics and Pricing Manager, you will:

  • Support the reimbursement strategy for specific New Pharmaceutical Innvoations portfolios. This is done in close collaboration with the Strategic Market Access Manager by providing health economics and market analysis for reimbursement submissions, to ensure that Pharmac applications are developed on time and in line with local strategy and pricing.
  • Conduct commercial and Health Economic assessments for key stakeholders, such as Pharmac:
    • Provide detailed Cost Utility Analysis (CUA) for Pharmac and drive negotiation of those CUA assumptions with Pharmac
    • Field and desk-based research to quantify market opportunity
    • Ensure formal Customer Insight research is conducted to enable treatment pathway and patient models for reimbursement
    • Create NZ patient models and adapt Global models for the NZ market to inform Forecast models for all internal Business planning and Strategic planning (long range forecasting)
    • Understanding and incorporation of solutions to address health inequities in New Zealand for Maori, Pacific People’s and rural New Zealanders
    • Provide (ad-hoc) Business analytics support to NZ Marketing Teams and NZ Country Manager
  • Develop detailed internal pricing proposals to enable reimbursement negotiations. This is done through:
    • Conducting market competitive landscape pricing analysis
    • Developing and managing strategy and technical input for health economic assessment of each product
    • Managing internal pricing approval process with Global Market Access, Regional Market Access and local finance teams
    • Supporting Market access manager in fulfilling the NZ pricing alignment and approval process


To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary education qualification in life science and health economics. It is also advantageous to have business qualification and/or experience.

You will also be a strong analytical thinker; able to quickly size up information, use logic to evaluate and draw sound conclusions, assimilate and analyse information that is high volume and complex. You will also have a strong understanding of New Zealand specific pharmaceutical nuances relating to Health Economics, Reimbursement, and Pharmac.
