2022 Women's Emergency Care Registrar / Senior Medical Officer
Fixed Term Full Time (3, 6 or 12 month placement opportunities) 7th February 2022 to 5th February 2023


The Women’s is Australia’s leading independent specialist hospital for women dedicated to improving the health and well being of women of all ages and cultures, and new born babies. The Women’s is recognised as a leader in its field, with expertise in maternity services and the care of newborn babies, gynaecology, assisted reproduction, women’s health and cancer services.


The Women’s is a centre of excellence for perinatal care, research and education, with more than 7,000 births per year. The Maternity Service at the Women’s is structured to provide quality care to women by the most appropriately qualified clinician. Obstetricians in the multidisciplinary teams provide clinical care with midwives, trainees, other medical specialists and allied health practitioners to women from a geographical area and to higher risk women from outside the local area. In addition some women with complex clinical needs may receive clinical care in specialist clinics.


As a Registrar/SHMO in WEC you are responsible for the provision of excellent clinical care to women who are outpatients or inpatients of the Women’s, and their babies and families. This position is responsible in collaboration with the Divisional Directors and Directors WEC:



  • Providing high quality clinical care for all patients attending WEC

  • Participation in the on call WEC roster and be available to attend during on call days if needed to the Royal Women’s

  • Assisting the heads of Units with some administrative responsibilities

  • The Women’s is committed to providing the best clinical experience and education therefore promoting ongoing professional development of all junior doctors; a wide range of clinical and audit meetings and specific teaching sessions is provided.


The Classification and Salary scale will be dependent on experience and you will be appointed and in accordance to the AMA Victoria – Victorian Public Health Sector – Doctors in Training Enterprise Agreement 2018-2021.
