About you
You are a dedicated Social Worker or Psychologist with a strong interest in working with children, young people and their families and carers. You are looking to have the opportunity to expand your clinical skills in a role focused on complex long term therapeutic intervention. You are compassionate, creative and client focussed. You are committed ongoing education and skill development and sharing your knowledge with your team, partner agencies and community. You work well in a team environment and actively participate in team-based clinical decision making. You collaborate with a diverse range of internal and external services, community organisations, agencies and stakeholders to the benefit of your clients. You are committed to ongoing quality improvement across all aspects of your role.

Where you’ll be working
New Street HNE is one of eleven services across the state. Clinical interventions specifically target supporting children and young people aged 10-17 years to cease harmful sexual behaviours and improve their safety. The service is unique in NSW because of the client group it serves. Priority is given to Aboriginal young people and families and young people with complex trauma histories.
The service model is based on personal responsibility and restorative practices; the extent to which children and young people can be expected to take responsibility is developmentally assessed. Service priorities include parents/carers' responsibilities, as well as the responsibilities held by alternative health services such as sexual assault services or partner agencies such as Department of Communities and Justice, NSW Police Force, Department of Education and non-government out of home care providers. Outreach activities such as education and community development also provide a unique and highly specialised service for those in this situation, the combination of all the service provisions has been found to have strong and effective outcomes for those with high and complex needs.
 
With a structured up-to-two year plan clinical services are provided by two clinicians per family. One clinician works primarily with the young person and the other primarily with the family and/or carers. In complex family situations, including where parents have re-partnered or where there has been previous family based trauma (usually domestic violence), additional clinicians may be allocated. The model operates within a trauma informed framework with trauma specific treatment emphasising safety, connection and emotional regulation. The model ensures that family/ carer work is given the same priority as work with the young people and is not an adjunct to work with young people. New Street Services are distinguished from most other services to this population in a number of ways, including the family and contextual work, multi-agency approach as well as an emphasis on restorative practices.

Who you’ll be working with
New Street HNE has sites in Tamworth and Newcastle and provides services across the LHD. Each site has counsellors (Psychologists, Social Workers and Counsellors), Aboriginal counsellors (Family Workers, Social Workers, Psychologists and Counsellors) and Administration Support. The team works in close collaboration on all clients. This position is based in Newcastle and is primarily focused on meeting the needs of clients in the greater Newcastle and lower mid-north coast areas.
