At Murrumbidgee Local Health District we provide a range of public health services to the Riverina and Murray regions of New South Wales across a geographic area of approximately 125,631 square kilometres. With around 241,000 residents living within our District we employ approximately 3,500 staff who work in our 31 facilities and support services. Our facilities include a Rural Referral Hospital, Base and District Hospitals, Multi-Purpose Services and Community Health Facilities.

About us
Holbrook Hospital is a 26 bed facility of which 10 are residential aged care beds. The Hospital also provides emergency, acute and residential aged care as well as a range of community nursing and allied health services.

About the role
A Visiting Medical Officer is required to provide non procedural GP services at Holbrook Hospital. The VMO will provide a high level of clinical care to patients and participate in the on call roster.

Murrumbidgee Local Health District requires Visiting Medical Officers to participate in service and policy development as well as an involvement with education, training and quality projects activities.

About the town
Known both locally and nationally as ‘the Submarine Town’, Holbrook is a popular tourist community with the decommissioned Australian submarine HMAS Otway a regular attraction. Located on the Hume Highway 3.5 hours from Melbourne and 5 hours from Sydney Howlong is 40 minutes from the large regional city of Albury and Wodonga and 1 hour from Wagga Wagga. 

With a population of just under 2,000 residents Holbrook is the centre of a richly diverse rural economy and produces wool, wheat and other grains, lucerne, fat cattle and sheep. The Holbrook district has some of the best grazing land in the state, with numerous cattle studs and primary producers reputedly being leaders in their field.

Holbrook has two local schools and easy access to other education options throughout the district, including Albury.

The wonderful events calendar includes fairs, markets and a triathlon. You can buy the district’s fresh produce and gourmet delights at the Holbrook Community Markets, on the fourth Saturday of the month. The annual Holbrook Agricultural Show in November is a delight for the whole family.

  1. Current Registration: MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist General Practitioner.
  2. Minimum three (3) years post graduate clinical experience. Previous experience in Emergency Medicine, General Practice, Adult Internal Medicine, Paediatrics or Rural Medicine an advantage.
  3. Knowledge of contemporary clinical management and modern approaches in assessment and management of the broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions. Competence in performing the range of minor urgent procedures commonly undertaken in a rural emergency department including Advanced Life Support and Trauma management
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, and research and quality improvement.
  6. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to behaviours which align to the NSW Health CORE values and MLHD Values, goals and strategies.
