The Service:

Bairnsdale Regional Health Service has received COVID 19 Workforce Initiative funding to support existing Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) service delivery within the greater East Gippsland region.

The workforce funding provides BRHS with an opportunity to outreach existing health service based AOD programs into remote and regional areas including Mallacoota and Orbost. These new AOD roles will work closely with BRHS AOD clinicians, local and regional GP's and other health service professionals to develop sustainable referral, treatment and support pathways.

The initial funding provides training, support, and supervision for multiple new AOD roles including community based withdrawal nursing positions and smart recovery facilitators. BRHS is committed to providing sustainable treatment and support pathways for people accessing Alcohol and Other Drug treatment programs.

The Position:

The Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Community Support Worker will provide client centred support to individuals in the community seeking assistance with their substance abuse. This position will work closely with the AOD Community Nurse to provide “care and recovery” support tailored to the client's needs and goals as well as performing a smart recovery facilitator role.
