Graduate Diploma of Midwifery (Clinical Placements)


in Partnership with LaTrobe University


24 Hours per week (supernumerary - Unpaid)

Your contribution 


The Women’s provides clinical placements for Registered Nurses completing postgraduate midwifery studies in order to qualify and practice as a midwife.


Our postgraduate midwifery students are a valuable part of our team and our clinical placement rotations cover a diverse range of midwifery practice. Our highly experienced Clinical Support Midwives (CSMs) will work with you to support your learning journey through orientation, direct clinical support, clinical tutorials and regular debriefing sessions.


All midwifery placements at the Women’s are supernumerary (unpaid). (Supernumerary means that you will be rostered in addition to the registered Midwives in the clinical areas in order to maximise your clinical experience and meet your clinical objectives).


All midwifery clinical placements at the Women’s are unpaid. Students are rostered a minimum of three days a week in order to complete their clinical requirements. Students complete their studies through Latrobe University. A small number of caseload/midwives in small team placements are available for interested Graduate Diploma of Midwifery students



In your role as a student midwife you will complete supernumerary clinical placements (minimum of three days per week) as part of the course requirements for the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery through Latrobe University



About you


To be successful within this role you will need to have:



  • Twelve months (12 months) recent post graduate consolidation (at time of course commencement - Feb 2022) in an acute care environment

  • Ability to provide women centred care (in line with learning program) in a complex busy tertiary setting

  • In your cover letter please could you address how if successful you would contribute to the Women's Social Model of Care in your role as a student midwife
