About the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Transition to Speciality Practice Program in PICU at Monash Children’s Hospital, Monash Health

Monash Children’s Hospital (MCH) cares for more than 100,000 children per year, providing care across the continuum of paediatric services from birth to 18 years of age. It is one of the largest children’s hospitals in Australia and one of only two tertiary paediatric hospitals in Victoria. MCH is co-located next to Monash Medical Centre in Clayton and is a purpose-built paediatric facility where clinical services will be delivered in a child and family-friendly environment.

The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a dedicated Paediatrics Tertiary 10 bed Unit with a complex patient mix. PICU is one of 2 tertiary centres for paediatrics in Victoria and operates across a 24/7 rotational roster.

About The Opportunities 

PICU is seeking excited, motivated and high functioning registered nurses to join our team with the opportunity to be part of the Transition to Speciality Practice (TSP) Program commencing in August 2021. The PICU TSP is for RNs looking to advance their career and transition into Paediatric Critical Care Nursing. The program consists of structured learning, clinical support with 6 paid study days across a 6 month period at 0.8EFT, with the opportunity for ongoing permanent hours.

The PICU TSP course will be due to commence in August with the option to join the PICU team now. 

This exciting new opening is ideal for RNs who are wanting to move into the paediatric critical care environment, advance their knowledge and skill with the option to move into post graduate studies in Paediatric Intensive Care Nursing in partnership with Melbourne University. The PICU TSP program will develop you into an effective practitioner and will provide you with lifelong skills and knowledge to care for critically unwell children.

There are limited permanent ongoing and temporary positions available with flexible rostering across a 24/7 rotating roster.

What You Need:

  • Post registration Nursing fundamentals such as medication administration

  • Knowledge & use of electronic medication record (EMR) system 

  • Current experience in critical care/emergency and paediatric nursing desirable

  • Self directed learning 

  • A collaborative & team driven approach

  • Commitment to safe best practice & quality care

  • Friendly, can do attitude

  • Current AHPRA registration
