Exciting Opportunities are available for specialist registered anaesthetists to join our team. This position is primarily based at Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital on the beautiful South Coast of New South Wales.

The applicant must be dedicated to a teamwork philosophy and be able to support and facilitate a culture of learning and best practice whilst providing high quality specialist anaesthetic services to inpatients and outpatients of the hospital and emergency department.

The primary responsibilities of the Anaesthetist are to provide exceptional expert medical assessment and management of emergency patients, inpatients and outpatients at the relevant Hospital.

The primary site for this position offers paediatric trauma (minor) services. Individuals competent in anaesthetising paediatric patients are desirable.

The Anaesthesia Department is supported by ICU/HDU but is not required to contribute to the ICU roster.

The Position Of Anaesthetist Requires Active Engagement And

  • Assistance in neonatal resuscitation in the operating theatres and labour ward.
  • Providing services for Acute pain management and Pre-admission clinics as rostered.
  • Supporting and providing on-call services within a hospital where the registrars are considered Junior.
In conjunction with a proactive approach to supporting the needs of the department by:
  • Regular teaching of Junior Medical Officers and Nurses by facilitating a culture of learning and best practice.
  • Active development of anaesthetic services.
  • Supporting, developing and engaging with anaesthesia research within the department .
The scope of clinical practice to be offered with this position may include clinical privileges at secondary sites within the Local Health District as approved by the Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.

Selection Criteria
  • Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) and/or equivalent specialist recognition.
  • Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
  • Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
  • Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites.
  • Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.
