Hughenden, also known as 'Hughie', is situated on the banks of the Flinders River, Queensland's longest river. Hughenden has direct road access to a number of major centres and tourist attractions within the region. The Flinders Highway runs through Hughenden connecting to Townsville (376km) in the east and Mount Isa (519km) in the west, with a southern sealed road access via the Dinosaur Way to Winton and Longreach. Hughenden has four National Parks, gem fields, mountainous volcanic basalt country, sweeping black soil plains and rich fossil and dinosaur areas. Swimming, fishing and bird watching are a must do when visiting and living here.

The Hughenden Multipurpose Health Service is a 24-hour accident and emergency hospital with a 15-bed acute facility, general medical and four long-stay nursing home-type beds. The centre has visiting services including Royal Flying Doctors Service, female GP, paediatrician and chest physician.

A variety of allied health services are also available such as visiting dental clinic, school oral health, dietetics, podiatry, physiologist, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychologist and diabetes educator. Community health services include an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health worker, community nurse and school based youth health nurse. The centre also has ATODS (alcohol, tobacco and other drugs), community mental health and social workers through their outreach services.

The Assistant in Nursing assists and supports Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses in the provision of quality patient care. This requires performing of service activities and aspects of direct patient care. The AIN works under the supervision and direction of the Registered Nurse however retains accountability for personal actions in fulfilling their role.

Salary range of $35.76 to $39.15 p.h. (Nurse Grade 1), 17.5% leave loading, 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation. We are seeking motivated and passionate Assistants in Nursing who can demonstrate the following:
Ability to assist clients with activities of daily living and other tasks.
Ability to work effectively with clients, colleagues and the multidisciplinary team.
Ability to effectively communicate information verbally and in writing.
Ability to use or learn to use information systems appropriate to the position.

Highly Desirable: Applicants who meet one of the following criteria are considered highly desirable:

Hold a relevant Certificate III in Aged Care, Health Service Assistant or equivalent, or
Successful completion of the first semester full-time equivalent Diploma of Nursing course including all theoretical and clinical competencies, or
Successful completion of the first year full-time equivalent undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing course including all theoretical and clinical competencies.
