Where you'll be working

Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region. What you'll be doing

The Child and Family Health (CFH) nurses practice above the level of a registered nurse, working within a primary healthcare model with families who have infants and/or young children 0-5 years.

This position will be involved in the provision of quality CFH nurse services to families within the Western Sydney Local Health District. This is achieved by working within a strength-based, wellness focus, building parental confidence and skills through the provision of information, resources, interventions, guidance and role modelling safe responsive care. The CFH nurse, utilises evidenced based screening tools and assessments to identify health variations or vulnerabilities to negotiate individual care plans and interventions that meet the needs of the family.

Essential Criteria:
Registration: Current enrolment with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency Registered Nurse Division 1
Selection Criteria:

  1. Postgraduate qualification relevant to performing the role of a Child and Family Health Nurse, or currently enrolled in a tertiary course with completion date within 12 months of employment.
  2. Evidence of post registration experience working with families and young children; including those from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  3. Understanding of, and commitment to, evidence based practice.
  4. Demonstrated experience in assessment of the physical, social and emotional needs of children, and their families.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the principles of population health and primary health care.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to utilise information technology systems within a variety of applications and a commitment to undertaking training in electronic health record systems
  7. Demonstrate effective verbal, written communication and negotiation skills.
  8. Current NSW Drivers Licence and willingness to use for work purposes.
