An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Casual Grade 3 Pharmacy Technician to join the team at Northern Health.

The Grade 3 Pharmacy technician is responsible for the provision of efficient and effective supply, storage and distribution of all authorised pharmaceuticals and supplies for use in line with the hospital's current Poisons Control Plan, with a minimum of three years full time experience as a qualified Pharmacy Technician. Initially, this role will be based in Emergency Department and will demand compliance with Pharmacy competency and credentialing requirements for the Clinical Pharmacy Grade 3 Technician role. Grade 3 Pharmacy Technician will work closely with emergency medical and nursing specialists, junior medical staff, allied health, ancillary services as well as pharmacy team to achieve strategic outcomes of the Pharmacy Department and Northern Health.

The role will require staff to be flexible with their working hours to meet the changing operations demands and can include working after hours, on weekends and public holidays. Staff will be required to travel and work across the various Northern Health campuses, programs, and partner organisations. Compliance with mandatory training as per NH Policy is a requirement of this role. Failure to complete this training within required timeframes may result in a suspension of duties until training is completed.

These May Include But Are Not Limited To

This position is responsible for:

  • Service imprest cupboards
  • Medication distribution
  • Receipt and storage of products in pharmacy
  • Tablet packing and store work (excluding those functions prohibited by the Pharmacy Board of Australia)
  • Stock control and replenishment
  • Assist or stand in for other members of the Pharmacy Support staff as required
  • Assist with the preparation and distribution of drugs
  • Technical components of prescription processing
  • Extemporaneous manufacturing on request
  • Sterile manufacture of pharmaceuticals
  • Assisting pharmacists in the provision of clinical services
  • Assist in PBS claim preparation
  • Additional duties as directed that are within the limits, skills, competence & training & consistent with
  • the position's classification
  • Able to work within established procedures or in specialised areas, e.g. clinical trials, sterile manufacture
  • with a high degree of autonomy and accountability in accordance with Pharmacy Board of Australia
  • guidelines
  • Assists in the supervision, training and mentoring of other pharmacy technicians and if required will
  • undertake a clinical tutor role
