About Mental Health Programs and Intensive Rehabilitation Services


The Mental Health Program (MHP) aims to deliver high quality mental health care to people living in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The MHP is organised into 3 Streams:



  • Early in Life (0-18 years)

  • Adult Mental Health Services/Intensive Rehabilitation Services

  • Community, Access and Partnerships


Each stream is managed through a partnership of an Operational Director and Clinical Director(s). Professional governance is provided via appropriate professional, in this case psychology, leads.

About our Psychology Services at Monash Health


The position provides psychological services, maintains an active case-load, and delivers a front-line psychological service response to consumers at Unit 1, Dandenong Hospital. Unit 1 is an acute inpatient psychiatric unit that provides psychiatric assessment and treatment to adult consumers (aged 25-64 years) who are acutely unwell due to a relapse of their mental illness or other mental health issues and are unable to receive assessment and treatment a less restrictive environment. The main focus of the position is to provide evidence-based, best practice psychological assessments and interventions for a diverse range of mental health issues experienced by consumers in the service. The position also provides secondary consultation to the team and other relevant stakeholders regarding the mental health issues of consumers in the service. The position may provide mentoring to provisional psychologists. This position is operationally directly accountable to the Nurse Unit Manager, Unit 1, clinically reports to the Consultant Psychiatrist(s) and is professionally accountable to the Psychology Discipline Senior and/or other psychology professional lead.


About The Role


Monash Health psychologists have a broad range and depth of experience dealing with mental health presentations.


Monash Health Grade 2 Psychology positions are entry level positions and include those who are completing their Registrar programs to gain an Australian Health Professional Regulation Authority (AHPRA) endorsement. P2 psychologists generally fulfil two main job duties.


They are expected to:


- Provide evidenced based, best practice specialist psychological clinical services to consumers within their organisational unit


- Assist in the provision of developmental activities such as mentoring students, training, implementing research or pilot projects associated with service development. This may include data collection and analysis and quality improvement activities within their work unit and for the profession of psychology across Monash Health, as commensurate to level of experience.


About You


You have the ability to:



  • Maintain an active caseload/service provision with the view to improve consumers’ health and quality of life

  • Commit to developing and maintaining an evidence-based, best practice psychological knowledge and skill set

  • Adhere to professional guidelines/codes, organisational policies/procedures and legislative requirements

  • Measure the effectiveness of service delivery

  • Ensure referring agents are satisfied with the quality, timeliness and relevance of psychological services provided

  • Participate in professional supervision/governance and professional development activities

  • Support and participate in a range of professional development activities, including initiating and contributing to staff training and development activities, quality improvement activities, and research and evaluation

  • Provide mentoring to provisional psychologists including students

  • Actively participate in reaching operational business unit Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and participate in department meetings and other meetings when requested or required

  • Work closely and cooperatively with all Monash Health colleagues and staff

What You Need



  • Current full general registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA

  • Appropriate post-graduate qualification (Masters or Doctoral Degree) in clinical psychology or forensic psychology in an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited course

  • Having or working towards AHPRA endorsement in clinical or forensic psychology

  • Experience working in mental health settings, in particular acute and/or inpatient mental health settings

  • Evidence of participation in clinical research activities
