About the role

As a Senior Behaviour Support Practitioner (Senior BSP) at ACSO you will be providing frontline services to clients with multiple and complex needs, specifically with intellectual disabilities, mental health conditions and offending behaviour backgrounds or behaviours of concern. This role will have an important impact on increasing both client and staff’s understanding of client’s needs, capacity for change and how to intervene and support accordingly. This will include assessing client’s baseline of need, developing goals for attainment and developing plans for transition. This role will also be involved in the development and delivery of training across the organisation and to external providers.

What we’re looking for

  • Approved degree in Occupational Therapy recognised for membership of OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists.
  • Current registration with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency)
  • To have a solid conceptual understanding of the theories of occupational performance, including the Model of Human Occupation and be committed to understanding and improving client functioning through formal assessment and interventions using recognised occupational therapy models of intervention.
  • Ability to undertake and interpret standardised and non-standardised Occupational Therapy assessment of patients with severe mental illnesses who have offended.
  • Experience working with clients with complex presentations, including intellectual disability, mental health and offending behaviour
  • Understanding of the criminal justice system
  • Understanding of the NDIS
  • Experience in the use of functional behaviour assessments, sensory assessments, adaptive behaviour and daily living skills assessments, and it is desirable if you have experience in forensic risk assessment.
  • Experience creating and/or facilitating skills-based group programs.
  • You will be required to have a sound knowledge and understanding of best practice principles to assess the risk and functional needs of ACSO’s complex client group and develop plans and programs to address these needs.
