Our main lab is located at Mile End in a new state of the art laboratory. Clinpath provides you with the opportunity to become a part of an Australian wide medical testing laboratory network, focused on medical leadership and expert advice. We serve our South Australian medical practitioners, private hospitals and aged care facilities.

About the Opportunity

An opportunity has become available for an experienced Transfusion Scientist to join the Hospital Laboratories Supervision Team on a permanent part-time basis.

This position is based primarily at the hospital laboratory at Calvary Adelaide Hospital, but also provides a point of reference for transfusion services performed at other Clinpath Laboratory sites and Hospitals serviced. Your role will work closely with the Director of Haematology, Hospital Laboratories Manager and other senior Clinpath team members.

Liaison with doctors and hospital staff;
Management of reagents and supplies (including quality control);
Knowledge to troubleshoot patient results in the laboratory;
Active participation in Liaison with Hospital Blood Bank committees to meet contractual obligations around blood product supply;
Participation in Laboratory external QAP, running internal quality activity and compliance activities, including training and accreditation;
Validation and monitoring of blood banking equipment and techniques;
Ensure all documented policies and procedures are current and reflect the relevant Standards for Best Practice;
Monitoring of blood stocks, usage and wastage reports;
Other ad-hoc duties as-assigned by Hospital Laboratories Manager and Director of Haematology and Transfusion Medicine; and
Participation in rostered shifts, including weekdays and afternoons, as required.
Monitoring of workload efficiencies and laboratory supplies and resources.

To be successful in this role you will need to possess the following:

A Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent;
Experience in Supervision of Transfusion lab in a Clinical Pathology department will be highly regarded;
Experience in Supervision and training of staff;
Sound knowledge with experience in advanced transfusion methods, managing massive transfusion would be desirable;
Sound knowledge and experience of transfusion-related quality control, as well as an understanding of the requirements of all relevant statutory bodies and authorities;
Demonstrated commitment to professional development in immunohaematology;
The ability to motivate and lead team members;
The capacity to be a proactive problem solver;
Excellent communication and relationship building skills; and
An ability to implement new methodology, including set-up, testing and validation.
