Full Job Description
Calvary Adelaide Emergency Department (South Australia)

Job title:
ACEM Trainee for 6 months ED and 6 months ICU

Job type:
Paid position

Attractive remuneration on offer

Application Closing Date

Position available from Term 1 2021 (1st Feb 2021)

The Opportunity….

We are offering 12 months of accredited training (6 months in ED and 6 months in ICU)

The Emergency Department is an Urban District Emergency Department accredited with ACEM for 6 months training and is currently led by 10 SMOs, 6 of whom are FACEMs.

This position is well suited for advanced ACEM trainees that has airway skills. Trainees have regular protected education days and we encourage each patient interaction to be a teaching opportunity. This means that it is straightforward to accomplish the required Emergency Medicine Workplace-based Assessments (EM-WBAs). The rostering is flexible and written to suit your lifestyle. There is minimal night duty.

The Intensive Care Unit is a 14 bed Level 3 Adult Intensive Care Unit. It is a busy, dynamic unit which cares for acutely ill patients and also specialises in post-operative cardiac, general surgical and neurosurgical cases. The other expectations on this unit are to attend all MET calls throughout the hospital, transport critically ill patients both within and outside the hospital and to ensure that all care delivered is documented and communicated to the relevant members of the interdisciplinary health team.

We believe that working in the private sector should be a core part of the Emergency Medicine training curriculum. This gives the trainees the opportunity to also learn what is not taught in the text books.

Our point of difference:
You work closely with our pool of FACEMs;
You learn tips/tricks that are not taught in textbooks;
You interact directly with Specialist from the different Specialities (not their registrars); and
You are not there to fill the gaps in the rosters.

The successful applicant will:
Have completed the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent;
Have current and relevant registration with AHPRA;
Be a member of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM);
Be passionate about patient care and achieving high quality medical outcomes; and
Have well-developed and effective cross-department relationship management skills.
