What Will You Be Doing

Successful applicants will work under the direction of more experienced medical staff and through collaboration with other health professionals. You will complete 6 months of ICU and 6 months of Emergency.

To ensure a high quality year that will help advance your career there are clinical, educational, governance and professional expectations over the course of the year. Critical Care PGY3’s are expected to provide leadership and take initiative in fulfilling the following responsibilities:

  • Under direction, provide appropriate medical care to patients and assist more senior doctors in complex cases.
  • Consolidate and build personal skill levels to ensure that patients receive the best possible service reflecting up to date evidence based professional practice.
  • Recognise, respond and escalate changes in the patient’s condition
  • Be able to work in a team with nursing and allied health staff to provide efficient Emergency Care
  • Undertake clinical assessments of urgent and non-urgent patients within clinically appropriate time frames and participate in the ordering and interpretation of clinical investigations, ensuring communication of abnormal results

What You Need
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Satisfactory completion of PGY2 year
  • Eligible for registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA
