JOB DESCRIPTION

Full Job Description
Multiple Fixed Term Full Time Day Worker (with on-call) position working 80 hours per fortnight

The role:
Responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the allocated site/facility. Provide after-hours emergency as determined by the relevant work unit.

Please refer to the Statement of Duties for a full list of duties.

The hospital:
The Tasmanian Health Service - North West Region encompasses two hospitals, the North West Regional Hospital in Burnie and the Mersey Community Hospital in Latrobe.

The North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) is a modern facility that provides acute care facilities for residents of the North West region of Tasmania. It is a University Teaching Hospital for the Rural Clinical School of the University of Tasmania.

The NWRH Emergency Department has an annual attendance rate of 28000 patients per year with 28% admission rate. The Department treats a broad range of patients including major trauma cases. It is the referral centre for several district hospitals including King Island

There are currently 9 Fellows of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM’s) working alongside other senior clinical staff. There are 8 Registrar positions available for training in Emergency Medicine; in addition, we offer two positions with a split of ED and Anaesthetics at the NWRH. The level of FACEM direct supervision and teaching is excellent.

The NWRH is an Emergency Medicine education and training hub for the North and North West of Tasmania and there is opportunity to complete the emergency medicine certificate and diploma at this hospital.

There is an opportunity for trainees that have completed their fellowship exams but require further ED time, to be rostered on the consultant roster with supervision, to ease their way into consultant practice and in addition be provided with clinical support time. This has proven to be a successful term.

The NWRH Emergency Department is accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine for twelve months advanced training in Emergency Medicine with paediatric logbook. The ED is proud of its success in guiding candidates through the primary and fellowship examination. Other accredited training positions for registrars are available in medicine, surgery, anaesthetics, paediatrics, obstetrics and palliative care. Non-accredited registrars positions in orthopaedics are highly sought after.

What's on offer:
Relocation allowance for successful interstate applicants can be negotiated
Support for ongoing professional development
Other employment conditions and allowances available under the Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award and the Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019
