About The Position



The Team Leader/Senior Animal Technician will undertake tasks associated with the care, husbandry and maintenance of genetically manipulated mice in the facility. They are expected to be technically competent in a good range of techniques and to be a point of reference for researchers, supervisor and technicians within the suite.

The role of a Team Leader is to undertake all tasks required of an animal technician while also being responsible for the supervision of two Animal technicians within the suite.

A Team Leader is responsible for ensuring daily work routines are carried out to a high standard and extra work requests are completed. They are to encourage a team environment and to model professional behaviour.

Selection Criteria

  • Diploma of Animal Technology (or equivalent)
  • At least 6 years practical experience in a medical research environment with mice
  • Familiar with AEC documents, requirements, and procedures
  • Proficiency in a large range of techniques commonly used in a mouse research facility
  • Ability to mentor and train staff under their supervision
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to relate across varying levels of the organisation
Terms of appointment

This position is available for 1 year in a full time capacity. Salary is HEW 5 ($72,036-$82,743). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
