About Department

The Biochemistry Department is a major section of St Vincent’s Pathology, performing and supporting the results of specialist studies and analysis including molecular biology (PCR), protein electrophoresis, immunochemistry, specific IgE assays, chromatography, immunosuppressant monitoring, breath testing, autoimmune serology, blood gases and automated general biochemical analysis. The department is closely integrated with St Vincent’s Pathology Point of Care Testing (POCT) services and is the pathology centre for co-ordination of Clinical Trials and Contract Testing.

About The Role

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Automated Chemistry section of Biochemistry.

Classifications for this position will range from classification range RY9 – RZ3 ($100, 536.80 - $113,911.20 per annum)

Duties
  • Ensure staff rostered to Automated Chemistry maintain acceptable service delivery and turn-around-times
  • In conjunction with the Grade 4 Scientist (General Chemistry) and Pathologists, monitor assay internal quality control and review External Quality Assurance results performance.
  • Develop and evaluate new methods and procedures appropriate to the needs of the Department
  • Ensure the training of staff working in the Automated Chemistry section is appropriate, complete and complies with regulatory and departmental requirements

Qualifications, Skills And Experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in science or applied science or equivalent
  • High level knowledge in the area of clinical and laboratory Chemical Pathology
  • Relevant medical laboratory experience in a tertiary hospital or private pathology laboratory.
  • Commitment to the maintenance of up-to-date knowledge in Clinical Biochemistry, particularly areas relevant to general chemistry
  • Well-developed computer skills, including Pathology Laboratory System(s), spreadsheet and database applications
