Full Job Description
This position is accountable and responsible for ensuring that the daily operations of all the health based laboratory facilities are well maintained and equipped to operate effectively and efficiently through the provision of expert technical support in Nursing and Allied Health teaching and simulation facilities.

The incumbent is a key and active participant of the Nursing and Allied Health team with a strong internal focus providing expertise and proficiency with a range of equipment and technologies across multiple campuses.

The role supports the delivery of nursing, allied health, aged care, disability, dental and pathology and provides students and teachers with an optimum environment and support for practice-based teaching and learning.

This role must be able to adapt to change, have the ability to exercise leadership, judgement and initiative, effectively liaise with external agencies and develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with key stakeholders within the Institute and externally

Your key accountabilities will include but is not limited to:
Manage and lead the laboratory team across both Frankston and Berwick
Coordinate equipment and material procurement for all course areas within Nursing and Allied Health department.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of policies for laboratory services and contribute to the development of best practice methodologies and the laboratory infrastructure necessary to support the Institutes teaching programs in collaboration with the Manager, Education and Program Managers and teaching staff
Liaise with staff and students to provide expert advice, support, guidance and training to ensure safe laboratory practices and techniques as well as managing the laboratories as clean and safe work environments in compliance with appropriate legislation and Institute guidelines
In collaboration with the manager and the Finance business area, prepare budget projections, resource allocation and purchasing of all necessary consumables and equipment for the effective operation of laboratory services across all relevant campuses. This also includes negotiating with suppliers for the cost effective provision of goods and services, within Institute procedures, to provide an effective and efficient procurement service
Engage with employers and industry representatives to ensure teaching equipment within the clinical labs, meets industry and employer needs and is current
Manage the provision of clinical equipment to meet industry needs for specific tailored programs


You will have a relevant degree in Nursing, Medical or Science with significant work experience specific to the Health Industry and subsequent post degree experience in a clinical laboratory, or an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training and or experience.

Crucial to your success will be your ability to provide high quality technical laboratory support with the capacity to develop innovative approaches to management of programs and exploit opportunities to improve the delivery of laboratory services.

You will have high level knowledge of a wide range of nursing and allied health laboratory equipment and infrastructure, its use, maintenance and management together with proven competency with simulation mannequin technologies for diploma and degree nursing laboratories.

You will also have the ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a busy environment, experience supervising, developing and managing staff, budgeting, stock management and maintenance.
