At Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) we provide a range of public health services to the Riverina & Murray regions of New South Wales. Our Mental Health, Drug & Alcohol teams provide critical services within acute, sub-acute & community settings. What you'll be doing

The Visiting Medical Officer will provide clinical assessment, management and treatment of patients with intellectual disability and psychiatric comorbidity in the Murrumbidgee District. The role involves liaison with carers, NGOs and primary care providers. It also comprises developing the competency of the team and support to existing services.

A significant component of the role is to provide education and management advice to local primary care providers and allied health staff who will be optimising the care of the patient. Knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, as well as familiarity with local services and NGOs will also be important in alleviating carer burden and providing a comprehensive package of care.

  1. Demonstrated significant experience in the assessment of those with intellectual disability and experience in Australian rural community practice.
  2. Evidence of a Medical qualification that is registerable with the: Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health service colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to continuing medical education relevant to area of practice and a willingness to commit to an equitable hospital on-call roster.
  5. Willingness to teach medical students and other staff of the hospital when reasonably requested with demonstrated understanding of and commitment to clinical quality improvement and peer review, equal employment opportunity and Occupational Health Safety and Rehabilitation.
  6. Evidence of a Fellowship of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry and proof of recognition as a specialist by the Specialists Recognition Advisory Committee.
