Work in an innovative, newly established program supporting older people living in the community experiencing or at risk of developing mental health conditions. Undertake clinical assessments and recommend interventions.

Seeking an experienced Mental Health Nurse to work within a multi disciplinary team of professionals. The Stepped Care For Older Adults Program provides assessment and interventions for older adults who are experiencing periods of mild to moderate mental ill health, or who are at risk of developing a mental illness due to social isolation and loneliness.

The program operates throughout Melbourne's north western region including Darebin, Moreland, Brimbank, Hume, and Melton and works in partnership with hospitals and community services organisations.

The Senior Mental Health Clinician role is part of a multidisciplinary team and will undertake senior clinical and general duties to ensure the provision of high quality, biopsychosocial services to address mental health care of clients. The role will also be key in providing nurse-led clinical expertise to team members.

This role involves undertaking triage function of clients coming into the program and assessment and intervention plans for new clients over the phone or face to face. This role may be based between the sites in Coburg, Brimbank and also has capacity to work from home some of the time. You will be working within a small friendly team of other mental health professionals reporting to the Team Leader of the program.

The successful candidate must have the following:

  • Degree in Clinical Psychology, registered as a Psychologist with the PBA and eligibility for membership with the A.P.S. College of Clinical Psychologists and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) - with a minimum of 5 years' professional experience as a Grade 2 Psychologist. o Approved Degree in Psychiatric Nursing or equivalent; or, Bachelor Degree in Nursing and a postgraduate qualification in Psychiatric Nursing
  • Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Demonstrated experience in providing high quality mental health clinical care to adults with mental health concerns, experience with people aged over 65 is highly regarded
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and highly developed communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive team culture
  • Excellent computer literacy and administration skills
  • Experience in undertaking clinical triaging or intake duties is desirable.
  • Victorian drivers licence, police check or willingness to undertake one, working with children check or willingness to undertake one
