Title: General Surgery Fellow 2022
Classification: as per EBA
Salary: Dependent upon qualifications
Hours: 76 per fortnight
Status: Full Time Fixed Term (12 months) commencing 31st January 2022

General Surgery Fellow:
Are you a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons with sub-specialty interests in colorectal, thoracic, paediatric, health and neck and vascular surgery?

We are looking for a Senior Surgical Registrar who is completing their final exams to work independently with consultant input where needed.

Exposure to a large and varied patient base is achieved as the health service operates the referral and trauma centre for the entire region which extends from Woodend to southern NSW. We operate a health service with 372 inpatient beds , 72 same day beds, 11 operating theatres, a regional cancer centre, an 80 bed integrated mental health facility, and a mother and baby unit.

The surgical unit has 39 beds and caters for over 200 patients per month from major and minor abdominal procedures to thoracic surgery. The unit plays a pivotal role in patient flow throughout the organisation by facilitating transfers from the Emergency Department, ICU, Operating Theatres, other departments and facilities. There are currently 13 general surgeons at Bendigo Health.

Selection Criteria

01.MBBS and FRACS (General Surgery) or equivalent.

02.Demonstrated clinical ability commensurate with that expected of a recently qualified specialist surgeon.

03.Significant experience working at a registrar level in a major hospital service

04.Good understanding of the Victorian public health system; in particular the clinical and quality requirements for care delivery.

05.Demonstrated ability to participate in the delivery of a training program suitable for Interns, Registrars in training, and HMOs.

06.Ability to interact and communicate with a diverse range of people at all levels.

07.Demonstrably superior interpersonal and negotiation skills.

08.Flexibility to operate in an environment of change and continuous improvement.
