About the job

Remuneration is according to the NSW Staff Specialists (State) Award. Level 5 remuneration is available with the gross income achievable in the range $350,261 to $473,685 depending on years of experience. In addition, there is superannuation (Australian Superannuation Guarantee). There is 5 weeks annual leave and 25 days per annum Training, Education and Study Leave (accruable and funded). Rental assistance is also available.

This Staff Specialist position is with 3 other anatomical pathologists (2.0 FTE) if working at NSW Health Pathology – Wagga Wagga Base Hospital.

This Staff Specialist position is solo practice if working at NSW Health Pathology - Griffith Base Hospital. It is recognised that solo practice is not recommended best practice by the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. In view of this, the preferred applicant will need to demonstrate working in a solo capacity for extended periods of time.

What you'll be doing

  • To provide high quality diagnostic, consultative, procedural and on-call specialty services in Anatomical Pathology, and to participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities commensurate with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
  • The Staff Specialist will ensure a high standard of professional performance and, where required, the encouragement of an academic environment which supports research and development.

Selection Criteria

  1. Currently registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in Anatomical Pathology, and/or other specialist recognition as provided under the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
  2. Demonstrated commitment to basic, applied or clinical research and/or medical education and staff training.
  3. Proven ability to work as a team member with effective communication, interpersonal skills and adaptability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  4. Demonstrated personal qualities including effective communication skills, motivation, initiative, time management and commitment to professional development.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to the principles of clinical quality management, continuous improvement and a contemporary knowledge of National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) Standards and NATA accreditation processes.
  6. Demonstrated contemporary clinical knowledge and technical expertise within the specialty of Anatomical Pathology.
  7. Proven 5 years post specialty experience with at least 2 years of solo practice (Selection criterion 7 would only apply if working at Griffith Base Hospital).
