JOB DESCRIPTION

The Role:
We are seeking dynamic Emergency Medicine Consultants (FACEMs) to join a cohesive Emergency Department in a beautiful regional setting, to meet increasing regional demand.

There are opportunities for career development with process design, teaching and improvements in patient transport. Applicants who expect to achieve FACEM within a limited time frame may be considered.

The Emergency Department is the largest department in the hospital and the biggest Emergency Department in WA outside of Perth. The Department receives more than 43,000 presentations per year of whom approximately 40% require admission. ED medical staff include Specialist Emergency Physicians, Senior Medical Practitioners, Registrars, Residents, and Interns.

Functioning as regional centre and being the only Emergency Department generates exposure to the whole spectrum of acute medical, surgical, paediatric, obstetric, gynaecological, and mental health related illness. The Emergency Department also provides medical transfers for the recently established Rescue Helicopter.

Case mix, including acuity and activity is highly varied, with around 110 presentations per day - approximately 140 per day on weekends and other peak periods.

Suitable candidates must be eligible for registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine or equivalent. Demonstrated extensive experience in Emergency Medicine, quality improvement and a commitment to clinical teaching. High level of communication and interpersonal skills with strong leadership skills in a multidisciplinary team environment.

The Hospital:
This is a 143-bed hospital that functions as the regional resource centre for the region with all major specialties present on site including ICU and CCU/cath lab.

The Hospital has undertaken a major redevelopment of Critical Care facilities and services.

The Location:
This is a beautiful seaside City located 2hour's drive from Perth, the city enjoys unequalled services including medical services, quality schooling, well priced housing, and access to many of the best wineries, surf, and scenic destinations in the state.

Skills & Qualifications Required:
ESSENTIAL
1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
2. Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine or equivalent.
3. Demonstrated extensive experience in Emergency Medicine.
4. Demonstrable high level of communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Demonstrated leadership skills in a multidisciplinary team environment.
6. Demonstrated experience and commitment to clinical teaching.
7. Demonstrated experience in quality improvement.
8. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the Aboriginal Cultural Respect Framework.
9. Current knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements in the areas of Equal Opportunity, Disability Services and Occupational Safety & Health, and how these impact on employment, people management and service delivery.
