The Behaviour Support Practitioner is a role within Youth Justice and is accountable to the Clinical Manager, Enhanced Support Team for: Providing assistance to young people with enhanced support needs, including the assessment of individual needs, the coordination of supports and development of Positive Behaviour Support plans; developing and implementing creating supportive interventions with an emphasis on functional skill enhancement; working collaboratively with young people and youth support workers to improve support provided to young people exhibiting complex behaviours and contributing to a therapeutic model of care so that young people with complex needs are able to achieve their full potential and reduce harmful behaviours.

Essential Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor of Disability and Developmental Education, or an appropriate degree which gives eligibility for full membership of Speech Pathology Australia, or an appropriate Degree enabling registration as an Occupational Therapist with AHPRA. or an appropriate degree which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

Special Conditions: Successful applicant will be required to hold a National Police Check (NPC) and satisfactorily complete an Employment-related Screening Check where this is required for the role, prior to being employed. Must hold a current Australian issued Driver’s Licence (equivalent to minimum class ‘C’ - South Australian), which must be maintained. Incumbent must be willing and able to drive all government vehicles within their licence classification during the course of their duties. Some out of hours work, and intra and interstate travel involving overnight absences, may be required.

Screening

Consideration for an offer of employment in the South Australian Public Sector is in part dependent upon a National Police Check, also known as a National Police Certificate.

If you are new to the department and are invited to an interview, you will be required to produce a National Police Check, which has been issued within six months of your application for the role. National Police Checks can be applied for via the South Australia Police or through an Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission accredited body.

If the role you are applying for also requires an Employment-related Screening Check, you will be required to undergo such assessment as is advised by DHS, including periodic assessment during your employment.
