Nursing Unit Manager Level 3 required for the purpose built Spinal Unit at Prince of Wales Hospital which has 20 Spinal Rehabilitation beds and 10 Acute Spinal beds. This is one of only 2 public hospital spinal units in NSW. You will be working with a large and active Multidisciplinary Team facilitating the transition of patients with life changing injuries to community living.

This position is available for 12 months from August 2021.

Where you'll be working

The Prince of Wales Hospital is a major teaching hospital based in Sydney's eastern suburbs that serves all of New South Wales. The hospital is situated close to the city, Bondi Beach, excellent shopping facilities, and within walking distance to Coogee Beach.

We are affiliated with the University of NSW, one of the premier medical teaching facilities in Australia. This assists us to provide excellence in care in conjunction with our commitment to clinical teaching and medical research.

Currently the NSW Government is investing $720 million to redevelop the Prince of Wales Hospital and progress the vision of Randwick as a world-leading centre for health and wellbeing, research, education and teaching. An Acute Services Building will be built in Stage 1 including a new adult emergency department, extra beds, intensive care unit, and new operating theatres for the campus.

More than just a new hospital building, this major redevelopment will transform how we deliver health services at Randwick. This facility will enable us to continue to attract and retain the best nurses, doctors and support staff and meet the changing health needs of our community. The redevelopment expands opportunities for cutting-edge health research, world first treatments and improved patient outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing

The Nursing Unit Manager is the registered nurse in charge of a ward/unit or group of wards/units or a service within SESLHD.

The purpose of the Nursing Unit Manager - Spinal Unit is to:

  • lead, direct and co-ordinate patient or client care;
  • ensure the practice of nursing is safe and efficient, maintaining standards of care through continual quality improvement initiatives.
  • lead and co-ordinate the nursing and multi-disciplinary care team at the ward or unit level, and
  • monitor and manage the business and management functions and processes of the ward or unit
As the leader of the unit, the NUM will demonstrate her/his capability through attitude, skills, behaviour and attributes, namely:
  • broad nursing experience and knowledge;
  • understanding and acceptance that patients are the central focus of service delivery;
  • professional integrity;

Selection Criteria
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Relevant management tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience, or a combination of study and work experience with a demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • A demonstrated knowledge and experience in the management and delivery of health care services
  • Proven ability in innovative clinical service delivery, harm minimisation and practice development
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills that demonstrate the ability to engage, enable and manage teams
  • Proven ability to create and maintain a positive workplace culture and articulate and achieve a vision for nursing services
  • Recent clinical experience in an acute hospital setting.
