Emergency Department Mental Health Nursing Educator (CNE)

Your new team

RMH(NWMH) and Western Health are establishing a pilot program that supports experienced emergency department (ED) general nurses from Western Health to train in mental health nursing. The funding from the Department of Health (the department) is part of the 2020-21 State Budget’s Victoria’s Recovery Workforce Package. The aim of this exciting and innovative pilot project is to build additional capacity to support mental health consumers who present to ED and to support capability building of ED staff confidence to respond to mental health consumers’ needs.

Although based at Sunshine ED this position will be part of RMH(NWMH)'s Mental Health Nursing Entry to Practice/Graduate Post Graduate team based at Royal Park Campus and will be supported by a dedicated Senior Psychiatric Nurse.

Your success in this role, will be in your ability to

  • Support educational activities for the RMH(NWMH)/Western Health’s entry to practice mental health nurses in the emergency department. You will complement existing educational roles that work with entry to practice mental health nurses.

  • You will contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of learning support strategies for entry to practice mental health nurse’s in an emergency department setting.

  • The role provides on-site education support to entry to practice graduate mental health, at Sunshine ED, to ensure the effective delivery of quality clinical services that are recovery oriented and inclusive of carers/families

  • If you are passionate and interested in developing high quality evidence based pathways for emerging mental health nurse then come and join like-minded staff in the Mental Health Nursing Entry to Practice/Graduate Post Graduate team. 

Your Contribution

  • Experience in working with and supporting entry to practice mental health nurses

  • A passion for mental health nursing education

  • Working as a registered nurse with a specialist qualification in mental health nursing for a minimum for three years

  • Capacity to build effective working relationships with key stakeholders

  • Autonomous and demonstrated capacity to work independently 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development for self and for team members

  • A current Victorian Driver’s License, and ongoing ability to use this form of transport
