The Risk, Safety and Emergency Management Unit, forms part of the People, Culture and Communication Division and provides a range of services to management and staff across all areas of Western Health such as occupational health and safety management, occupational violence and aggression (OVA), projects, education and strategic co-ordination of emergency management.

Safewards is a model developed in the UK designed to enhance safety for staff and patients by decreasing conflict and containment events. In collaboration with the Department of Health and the University of Melbourne, the Safewards Project

Co-ordinator will be responsible for expanding the Safewards model on two pilot hospital sites to evaluate it's impact in acute medical wards. The project aims to determine the applicability of the model in general health settings and to establish staff confidence in using the model.
