The Centre for Health Analytics (CHA) is a new Melbourne Children’s Campus initiative, to unleash the power of data to improve health. This includes the use of data to improve all aspects of patient care, operations, public health, education and research. The Health Informatics research is based at CHA and includes the epidemiology and signal detection team for SAEFVIC. SAEFVIC (Surveillance of Adverse Events Following Vaccination In the Community) is a specialist vaccine safety service focusing on vaccine safety and surveillance and is an international leader in vaccine safety and vaccine safety research. It helps immunisation providers report and manage both children and adults who have had (or are at increased risk of) an adverse event following immunisation (AEFI).

The Epidemiology and Signal detection team manage the state-wide surveillance system, reporting to the Department of Health, Victoria and nationally on AEFI trends and potential signal detections. Research activities include the investigation and validation of AEFI signal events and establishment of enhanced signal detection methodologies including near real-time surveillance from range of health data sources. SAEFVIC engages with networks focussing on vaccine-related issues of public health importance and supports the National Immunisation Program, including roll out of the COVID-19 vaccination program. This role will support the Epidemiology and Signal detection team to implement a COVID-19 vaccine safety surveillance plan for Victoria, including related research projects. This role will provide an opportunity to learn multiple aspects of informatics and data systems, as well as supporting a critical public health role.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Key Accountabilities

Assisting Health Informatics group researchers in conducting research projects in all aspects of health informatics.
Assisting in the preparation of protocols, ethics submissions and documentation, and grant submissions.
Maintaining communication with collaborators.
Conducting ethical research at the highest level of integrity and in line with the Australian Code for Responsible Conduct of Research and MCRI policies.
Assisting and contributes to data generation for research and publications.
Working to improve skill base in research productivity and methodology.
Assisting in high calibre, competitive research.
Following standard operating procedures, study protocols and study guidelines.
Continuously maintenance of neat and orderly records, lab books and data storage.
Fostering relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including Victorian Department of Health.
Engaging in the campus culture including professional development activities and attending internal/external campus conferences and seminars.
Awareness of, and adhering to, MCRI policy on Intellectual Property/Material Transfer Agreements/Contracts/Clinical and Public Health Outcomes.

You Demonstrate:
Selection Criteria

Degree/Honours/Masters qualification in Science, Information Technology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacy or related discipline.
Appropriate level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training or professional accreditation (Step 2 to 5).
Demonstrated capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Excellent time management, organisational and analytical problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated computer skills, including spreadsheets, database programs, statistics and word processing.
Demonstrated understanding of a range of research methodologies and their application in empirical research.

Information technology, Epidemiology, and/or statistics background is desirable.
Previous experience in preparing ethics submissions and maintaining correspondence with HREC desirable.
Experience with NHMRC Sapphire system.
Experience in visual presentation and design and/or webpage design.

On Offer:
1 Year Contract (with possible extension).
Full Time or Part Time position available.
Salary $75,700 - $92,190 per annum (pro rata if Part Time) + salary packaging and super.
