An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Consultant Psychiatrist - Consultation Liaison/PAPU, who is interested in improving health outcomes across the general hospital setting, to join our Mental Health Division. We are seeking someone who relishes the complex and rewarding work of a liaison psychiatrist within a multidisciplinary team.


Austin Health's Mental Health Division incorporates a number of specialities and services across community and bed-based services, with inpatient beds located on all three campuses. The Division provides catchment-based area mental health services, in addition to a number of regional and state-wide specialty services.


The Mental Health Division supports the rights of consumers to receive treatment in the least restrictive environment possible and delivers care which is consistent with the objectives of the Victorian Mental Health Act 2014 and the National Standards for Mental Health Services. Service delivery is underpinned and supported by contemporary operational and clinical governance structures, and relevant policy and process.


You will be working with a team of professionals to make a difference to consumers impacted by mental health difficulties. Person centred care will be at the core of what you do, and the successful candidate will be guided by the Austin Health values.


Details of position:



  • Employment Status: Permanent Fractional 

  • Appointment Period: Available from 8th August, 2021

  • Hours per week: 10.5 hours general CL with potential for lead consultant role, plus 7 hours PAPU CL

  • Additional Notes: Hours/Sessions may be combined, please indicate your availability/preferences in your application.


To be successful for this role you must: 



  • Be a registered Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

  • Hold a Fellowship of the Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), or equivalent

  • Have appropriate training and experience applicable to the field of Psychiatry

  • Demonstrate a commitment to high quality patient care

  • Demonstrate a commitment to working as a team member with peer medical, junior medical, nursing and other clinical staff to provide efficient, safe and quality care across the continuum, and

  • Demonstrate a commitment to teaching, training and research.
