The Service and Role


A unique and exciting opportunity exists to be part of the Mental Health team at Eastern Health. We are seeking a Registered Nurse Grade 4 (RPN4) or an Experienced Registered Nurse Grade 3 (RPN3) who has leadership experience to be the Team Leader at Canterbury Road Community Care Unit.


The Canterbury Road Community Care Unit in Camberwell is a 20 bed community based residential facility and features a highly structured and supportive physical environment. The clinicians within the multi-disciplinary team have high levels of contact and interaction with consumers who are recovering from a mental illness and their carers to promote self-determination and aims to empower individuals.



The unit operates under a recovery-oriented model of care, utilising the Collaborative Recovery Model in a collaborative, team based environment. The unit’s recovery program offers a consumer-centred treatment approach to assist consumers in achieving their personal recovery goals and maintain wellness.



For this dynamic role we require candidates, who:



  • Hold current registration with AHPRA

  • Have the ability to provide leadership within the Community Care Unit; in the form of role modelling, mentoring, and working with consumers who have a more complex lived experience of mental ill health; providing support and strategies to other clinicians around how to support these consumers.

  • Provide consistent, effective clinical and operational leadership in keeping with the key objectives and service requirements of the AMHS Rehabilitation Services, and in line with the organisational and strategic direction of the Manager AMHS Rehabilitation Services.

  • Work collaboratively with the Consultant psychiatrist, the CCU Senior Clinician and the Manager AMHS Rehabilitation Services in the implementation and maintenance of professional clinical practice and standards including the implementation of the Collaborative Recovery Model.

  • Can liaise with internal and external stakeholders as required and manage access and flow for the Community Care Unit

  • Possess well-developed interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Are highly accountable and display a supportive and engaging style

  • Have commitment to supervised practice, ongoing professional development and further developing skills in leadership and clinical mental health.

  • Demonstrated advanced verbal and written communication skills in all professional domains of practice.

  • Work a Monday to Friday roster within the hours 8.30am – 5pm.

  • Hold a valid full driver’s license.
