Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services LTD (KAMS) is a well-established regional Aboriginal community controlled health service, founded in 1986, which provides centralised advocacy and resource support for 6 independent member services, as well as providing direct clinical services in a further 6 remote Aboriginal communities across the region.

KAMS has successfully delivered high-quality, accessible comprehensive primary health care services over its 22 years of operation and has provided innovation and national leadership in areas such as health information management and evidence based best practice in primary health care.

The Kimberley region is located in the northern part of Western Australia and covers about 421,000 square kilometres. The Kimberley has only three towns with a population of more than 2,000 (Broome, Derby and Kununurra), and the total population is around 37,000. In addition to the sealed Route 1 which runs along the southern part of the area, the unsealed Gibb River Road runs through the heart of the region from Derby to the highway near Kununurra. Access to much of the region is by dirt road, air or sea.

About the Opportunity

KAMS has an opportunity for a Health Informatics Support Officer to join their friendly, multidisciplinary team in Broome, WA, on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Executive Manager ICT Services you will be responsible to contribute to the ongoing scheduling of regional staff training, develop and deliver staff training packages relevant to the use of the organisations electronic health record and the processing of the organisation this position will provide training and support in the area of Data Quality management including the provision of subsequent ongoing site based support. The Health Informatics Support Officer will also be involved in the data cleansing, report preparation and data analysis for all KAMS clinics, and the execution and finalization of MMEX projects.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Plan and develop MMEX induction training program for new staff and RTO recruits, and subsequent ongoing staff training programs to support the implementation and ongoing development and usage of MMEX.
  • Develop staff training plans and associated communication documents relevant to ensure the successful implementation of MMEX and associated data quality management.
  • Develop staff training protocols, policies and matrix relevant to MMEX training, data quality & support.
  • Effectively communicate training & support expectations to all stakeholders.
  • Conduct ongoing reporting and analysis of the data stored on the MMEx system to ensure continuous quality improvement.

KAMS are seeking a candidate who has skills and experience in working with computerised client information systems preferably in a health setting and experience in the development of targeted training packages.

The ideal candidate will have experience in training delivery and demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal culture and the ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people.Due to the nature of this role, a current manual driver’s licence with the capacity to drive a 4WD and travel by small aircraft is required.

Previous experience working with Aboriginal people and or Aboriginal organisations will be highly regarded.
