About The Role

  • Maximise OPD clinic capacity with 3 new patients and one review patient. One new patient space would be reserved for emergent referral from anaesthetic/surgical colleagues.
  • Timely finalisation of letters to allow ongoing surgical planning It would be expected that the successful applicant will closely monitor the activities of a General Medicine Medical Registrar under their supervision and in particular their clinical skills, response to emergency situations, quality of record keeping, relationships to other health professional staff, patients and their relatives, and completion of letters.
  • Involvement in critical incident/sentinel event investigation and participation in Root Cause Analysis when required.
  • Provide perioperative care through a pre-assessment clinic with the use of a multidisciplinary team in order to improve patient experience, reduce postoperative morbidity and mortality, reduce inpatient hospital days and reduce early re-admissions following surgery.
  • Optimise the management of chronic disease comorbidities preoperatively while also actively investigating and managing new health issues that become apparent during clinical assessment
  • To facilitate discussion regarding surgical risk and fitness for surgery through shared decision making with the patient and their treating teams.
  • To provide medical plans for the immediate peri-procedural period and post-operative period, including discharge planning and advanced care planning.
