Period of Employment

Permanent, full-time, shift work (fully rotational), working 76 hours per fortnight commencing ASAP.

Duties

This position is in the Preanalytics Department where Pathology specimens and requests are received in the laboratory and analysed. This includes:

  • Patient research and study samples are received, accessioned, data entered and prepared for analysis.
  • Distribution of samples to the appropriate areas for analysis.
  • Referral of Samples to other Laboratories both domestically and internationally.

In the role of Laboratory Technician – Preanalytics you will -

  • Ensure that specimens are handled, stored, prepared and distributed appropriately. Centrifuge specimens where necessary and prepare the required number of accurately labelled aliquots. Ensure that the correct specimen is received in the laboratory for analysis.


  • Assist with the receipt of pathology specimens, including data entry.


Essential Requirements

  • An Associate Diploma from a recognised tertiary institution, or an equivalent qualification, appropriate to the nature of the work.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty
