About the role

As our new Senior Risk Reduction Policy Officer, this is an excellent opportunity for you to showcase your leadership skills and oversee the delivery of national strategic activities. Your role will see you promoting the prevention of CVD through increased uptake of Heart Health Checks (absolute CVD risk assessments) and the importance of risk reduction measures (lifestyle and clinical) to the general community and health professional audience.

You will support the Risk Reduction team to achieve key strategic goals including those related to consumer and health professional engagement and integration of CVD risk assessment into routine practice.

The position will ensure strong connections are maintained between the Heart Foundation and key stakeholders in the primary health care and chronic disease prevention space. It will also ensure the latest evidence and policy changes are integrated into the Risk Reduction program of work.

About you

The successful candidate will hold a tertiary qualification in nursing, allied health, health promotion or public health.

The following skills, knowledge and experience will also be important in this role.

  • Understanding and appreciation of cardiovascular health as a public health challenge and knowledge of the unique issues and barriers that affect primary health care
  • Strong understanding of primary care policies, structures, funding models and engagement channels
  • Demonstrated experience implementing education or behaviour change programs with primary care health professionals
  • Awareness of the broader clinical issues associated with treatment and management of cardiovascular disease in Australia.
  • Experience in evaluating dissemination and or implementation strategies in a primary care setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience building internal and external relationships.
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Excellent writing skill (including submissions for external funding) with attention to detail.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications.
