The Opportunity

The Pathology Collector will provide a high standard of quality patient care in both Outpatients Pathology collection area and throughout the hospital wards. They will also participate in the provision of services to the Royal Park Campus and Melbourne Private Hospital.

Your success in this role, will be in your ability to

  • Provide phlebotomy services to the patients of Melbourne Health.

  • Transport specimens within campus to appropriate courier, despatch or sample reception area, as required.

  • The ID2 Phlebotomist will rotate between all areas of specimen collection service, as rostered. They may be required to participate in rostered work in central specimen reception, data entry and provide pathology service at one or all locations where Melbourne Health Pathology Collection operates.

  • Adhere to Melbourne Health’s Policy and Procedure; including Hand Hygiene, patient identification and tube labelling

  • Manage risk and actively work toward implementing risk reduction strategies.

  • Demonstrate professional care with respect to patient privacy and confidentiality.

  • Participate in professional development

  • At all times adhere to Health and Safety protocols for the patients and you

  • Participate in an annual review

  • Other duties as directed by the Nurse Unit Manager

Your Contribution

You will have a formal qualification in Certificate III or IV in Pathology Collection, as well as:

  • Effective and accurate written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to follow Policy and Procedure

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Manage risk and actively work toward implementing risk reduction strategies

  • Recent Blood collection experience in a hospital setting (desirable but not essential)
