Hours per week: 28 hours per week (Shift work required - 24 hour rotating roster including overnight shifts) Shifts stypically start at 7am, 9am, 2:30pm and 10:30pm (overnight)

Salary: $64,337.92 to $90,394.15 (pro rata) per annum

Position Summary

A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated Registered Nurse with a Counselling background, appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team at St Vincent’s Alcohol and Drug Contact Centre. Our progressive and innovative team offers development opportunities for our staff and a caring environment for the delivery of high quality patient centred care. The Alcohol & Drug Contact Centre operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and provides a number of state-wide telephone helplines and webchat for people who use alcohol or other drugs.

The successful applicant will be expected to work within a strengths-based and harm-minimisation framework and deliver high quality person-centred drug and alcohol counselling, including bio-psychosocial assessments, evidence-based brief interventions, health education and advice, and referrals to external agencies.

The successful applicant will be expected to work across the following service lines:

  • Alcohol and Drug Information Service (ADIS), including WebChat
  • Opioid Treatment Line (OTL)
  • Drug and Alcohol Specialist Advisory Service (DASAS)
  • Stimulant Treatment Line (STL)
  • ACT Quitline
  • 1300DRIVER
  • Cannabis Caution
  • Western Australia Alcohol and Drug Support Services (overnight only)

SELECTION CRITERIA
  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Nursing and currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency
  • Demonstrated relevant experience in the Alcohol and Other Drug sector including providing assessments, brief interventions and counselling for clients experiencing drug and alcohol dependency.
  • Demonstrated understanding of contemporary approaches to drug and alcohol treatment, including harm reduction, person-centred and strengths-based approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and respond to vulnerable and ‘at risk’ populations in the AOD field, and utilise harm minimisation procedures within an ethical framework.
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills (including via telephone and typing), including a minimum typing speed of 40 WPM.
  • Demonstrated high level computer skills, competent in using Microsoft Office, and previous experience with electronic patient record systems.
  • Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal skills, ability to recognise, understand and manage emotions in yourself and others.
