The Healthcare Access at School (HAAS) Clinical Nurse Consultant is responsible for the quality and safety of clinical care provided by the Healthcare Access at School Program. The position sits in the School Services Team and works closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Healthcare Access at School (HAAS) provides nurse-led care to students at ACT public schools, who need support for complex or invasive health care tasks, to allow them to safely attend school. HAAS is available from preschool through to college. This is a partnership with the Education Directorate. The registered nurse completes a full health needs assessment and develops a healthcare plan in partnership with the parents and other health providers as needed. School staff are then trained in the health tasks and are assessed for competence by the registered nurse. The registered nurse provides ongoing support to the student, school and parents.

Eligibility/Other Requirements
  • A tertiary qualification in pediatric nursing and/or a minimum of five years’ experience working professionally in a pediatric speciality.
  • Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Experience in primary health is an advantage.
  • Hold a current driver’s licence.
  • Have an understanding of how the National Standards and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role as detailed in the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.
Prior To Commencement Successful Candidates Will Be Required To
  • Obtain a Compliance Certificate from OMU (Occupational Medicine Unit) relating to assessment, screening and vaccination processes against specified infectious diseases.
  • Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
Notes

This is a permanent part time position and the successful candidate will be employed for 24 hours per week. Please note that the full-time salary will be paid pro-rata. The successful candidate will be required on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, although there may be some capacity to negotiate attendance hours and days.

Duties

Under limited direction of the School Services Clinical Nurse Manager you will:
  • Provide professional leadership and clinical governance to guide, support, educate and mentor nursing staff in your teams.
  • Develop relationships with internal and external stake holders that build awareness and understanding in order to overcome barriers to collaboration.
  • Oversee the quality and safety of clinical care provided to clients and identify clinical issues requiring systems review in order to manage risk.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate policies, procedures and clinical guidelines to build an environment of excellence, ambition and success.
  • Be accountable for reviewing the clinical service delivery model of the HAAS Program using analysis and clinical judgment
  • Contribute to management of effective resource utilisation and provision of accurate information on service delivery.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

  • Proven knowledge, experience and competence at an advanced level of nursing practice with a particular emphasis on the broad range of issues that impact on the health and wellbeing of children.
  • Demonstrated expertise to support, inspire and supervise the clinical practice of nursing colleagues in a variety of community settings to ensure the quality and safety of health outcomes.
  • Proven high level written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to advise, consult and partner with key stakeholders including children and their families.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of Information technology in health service provision and evaluation, including the use of data collection and reporting systems.
  • Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WHS) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
