About Department

The Health, Safety and Wellbeing Department is responsible for ensuring that the organisation complies with OHS legislation and that the health and safety management system, developed based on best practice, is in place at all SVHM workplaces. This is achieved with a multidisciplinary team including OHS, patient manual handling, aggression prevention, wellbeing, injury management, emergency management and respiratory protection.

About The Role

The Senior Health and Safety Consultant, under the guidance of the HSW General Manager will lead the organisational health and safety management system and promote a positive safety culture, so as to provide a safe work environment. They will provide advice and technical support for health and safety matters across the diverse work areas at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.

They will ensure that health and safety risks are mitigated through robust, effective systems and processes. Close liaison with key stakeholders across the organisation is essential.

The classification for this position will be HS5 ($92,856 per annum) pro rata.

Duties
  • Lead incident investigations, including report and recommendations to prevent recurrence, for serious incidents
  • Lead safety risk management activities
  • Provide expert health and safety advice
  • Lead safety projects
  • Maintain up to date OHS data systems

Qualifications, Skills And Experience
  • Tertiary qualification in health and safety or related field
  • 5 years health and safety experience
  • Demonstrated understanding and comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes and standards
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects at the one time
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment is desirable
