Associate Lecturer in Exercise, Health or Sport Psychology

  • Join the Psychology of Active, Healthy Living (PAHL) Group within the School of Human Sciences
  • Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in sport, exercise, and health psychology, and support research and community health promotion activities
  • Part time (0.8FTE) at Level A, Step 8 – initial 12-months (with a possibility of an additional 2-years extension depending on funding and performance)

About the team

The School of Human Sciences is a large multi-disciplinary entity with research and teaching focused on better understanding what it is to be human—our structure, function, development, genetics, health, adaptation, performance, and evolution.

As the successful appointee, you will work within the Psychology of Active, Healthy Living (PAHL) Group, chaired by Associate Professor Ben Jackson. The PAHL Group works closely with researchers, students, industry, government, the non-profit sector, and the media, and is committed to exercise / health research and community health promotion programs that achieve real-world impact.

About the opportunity

You will contribute across teaching, research, and service. Your research activity will be embedded primarily in the PAHL Group’s established themes, activities, and programs. You will also make a strong contribution to the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate teaching portfolio in the areas of exercise / health / sport psychology and behaviour change (your specific teaching load and activities will be developed according to your strengths and experience).

To be considered for this role, you will:

  • Hold (or have submitted and be awaiting conferral of) a PhD in exercise, health, or sport psychology, and / or behaviour change, or a closely related area.
  • Demonstrate evidence of a developing research track record that aligns with research priorities and themes within the PAHL Group. Evidence of experience conducting mixed-methods research is desirable.
  • Demonstrate evidence of a commitment to research and community programming that generates real-world impact. Knowledge of research funders and previous involvement in externally-funded projects is desirable.
  • Have experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate units in exercise, health, or sport psychology and/or behaviour change. Unit coordination experience is desirable.
  • Display a willingness to develop curriculum and a commitment to enhancing the student experience at UWA.
  • Have experience in the supervision of Honours or Masters students.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a team-focused approach to academic work, and have displayed evidence of (or a willingness to engage in) academic entrepreneurship.
  • Have displayed a capacity to generate productive research and community partnerships and work with diverse academic and non-academic groups.
  • Show evidence of the ability to effectively work with members of the community, professional bodies, industry, government, and/or advisory groups.

To succeed in this position, you will be a driven academic with passion for exercise, health, or sport psychology, and/or behaviour change. You will be committed to supporting and expanding the research and community programming activity of the PAHL Group. You will have a developing research and teaching track record, and possess some experience working with industry, government, and/or non-profit partners.
