About the role:
As the Aboriginal Health Worker you will provide flexible, holistic and culturally sensitive health services to Aboriginal clients and the community, to achieve better health outcomes and better access to health services for Aboriginal people. There are a number of training opportunities that the applicant will be supported to take up including formal education at TAFE for Certificate III Health qualifications (if not already held by applicant).

About the Service:
The Aboriginal Maternal Infant Health Service (AMIHS) is for all Aboriginal families, including dads, mums and babies and women giving birth to Aboriginal babies. AMIHS Midwives and Aboriginal Health Workers provides regular and comprehensive antenatal and postnatal health care, support and education, linking in with main stream health services and non-health services as appropriate from as early as possible after conception up to eight weeks after the birth of the baby. Working in partnership with Midwives, as the Aboriginal Health Worker you will be called on to support high quality maternity care that is culturally sensitive, women centred, based on primary health-care principles and provided in partnership with Aboriginal people in your local community.

About you:
You are a highly motivated Aboriginal Health Worker with a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the health issues and key policies that impact on Aboriginal communities across Hunter New England Local Health District. You also have a demonstrated ability to liaise, proactively engage and work collaboratively with vulnerable communities and relevant agencies in ensuring culturally responsive services.
