The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Career Medical Officer - Pharmacotherapy (Casual/Relief) (525703) vacancy.

Salary

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Classification

Medical Practitioner Level 10 to Level 13 in accordance with the Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019

Period of Employment

Fixed term casual positions working as an when required commencing as soon as possible for a period of 12 months.

Location

Pharmacotherapy Unit. Ground Floor Carruthers Building St John’s Park New Town

Duties

Provide direct patient care across the Alcohol and Drug Service (ADS) Statewide Pharmacotherapy, Inpatient Withdrawal Unit and Community Teams.

Work within a multidisciplinary health team to facilitate the comprehensive assessment, planning and implementation of appropriate clinical management for persons who are dependent on alcohol and/ or other drugs.

Assess the appropriateness of methadone or buprenorphine treatment for opioid dependent persons.

Advise clients on the appropriate treatment of drug or alcohol dependence and other drug related problems and implement or facilitate such treatment.

Prepare a treatment plan and in opioid dependent patients considered suitable, safely induct onto the selected opioid pharmacotherapy and provide on-going clinical and laboratory monitoring and adjustments of the methadone or buprenorphine dose.

Essential Requirements
General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer.

The following checks are to be conducted:1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty
