JOB DESCRIPTION

This is a Fixed Term Part Time appointment at 30.4 hours per fortnight (additional hours may be available at times to meet service needs) until 31 January 2022 with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency.

WA Health is committed to growing the Aboriginal workforce as a part of WA Health’s Aboriginal Workforce Policy. As a measure to achieve equality, Section 51 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 applies to this position. Aboriginal people are encouraged to apply.

This is a Fixed Term opportunity while the substantive occupant is on a period of Parental Leave.

Position Profile: We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, innovative and collaborative Senior Occupational Therapist specialising in a Hand and Upper Limb caseload to work in the Occupational Therapy Department at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. The Occupational Therapy Department has a strong focus on research, evidence based practice, quality improvement and development of its staff and prides itself on clinical excellence across its wide ranging areas.

This position would provide the opportunity to work closely in a team with other senior OT clinicians in a progressive, fast paced and acute environment that includes inpatients but predominantly outpatients of Orthopaedics, Plastics and Rheumatology. The department has strong working relations with the medical and surgical teams and works using innovative practices on acute trauma and elective patients to achieve the best clinical and functional outcomes.

Area Profile: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) is one of Australia's leading teaching tertiary hospitals. Located at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre 4km from Perth city centre, SCGH provides a comprehensive range of clinical services including trauma, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, general medicine, general surgery, and cardiac care. It is home to WA's only comprehensive cancer centre - the largest cancer treatment centre in the State - and is the State's principal hospital for neurosurgery and liver transplants.

Eligibility to Apply: Australian citizenship or permanent residency is an essential requirement for applicants to be considered for permanent positions in the public sector.

Employee Benefits: In addition to the great salary our employees enjoy an amazing range of benefits which may include (in line with operational requirements):

  • 9.5% employer contributed superannuation into a fund of your choice. For further information click here.
  • Access to generous salary packaging arrangements
  • Professional Development Opportunities and Study leave/assistance
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Flexible leave arrangements
  • Other professional and location based allowances

Other Conditions: WA Health engages staff in positions of trust and responsibility. WA Health policies require applicants to undertake criminal records screening and integrity checking as part of the appointment process. Referees may also be asked to comment on an applicant’s integrity and past demonstration of ethical behaviour.

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies (including permanent full time / part time, fixed term full time / part time with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency and casual appointments) throughout the health service. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.

Selection Criteria: Please see the attached Job Description Form.
