About The Child And Youth Community Health Services

The Child and Youth Community Health Services (CYCHS) brings together a variety of specialist community services to help our kids and their families to lead healthier lives.

CYCHS predominantly provides front line health care to communities throughout south east Queensland. In fact, the service provides access to community care to around 470,000 children, which represents 42 per cent of Queensland's children. A range of services are provided across the continuum of care as well as health promotion.

A number of Child and Youth Community Health programs, including Deadly Ears, reach communities throughout the entire state.

The service's 450 (full time equivalent) staff work in and from more than 50 community health centres, plus clinics, hospitals, schools, shops and offices, covering a geographic area beyond Beaudesert in the south to Kilcoy in the north.

Unit Profile

The Primary School Nurse Health Readiness Program (PSNHRP) is a state-wide initiative which aims to optimise the health and wellbeing of children during their transition to primary school, with a focus on Prep vision screening. PSNHRP Registered Nurses are based in all Hospital and Health Services across Queensland and provide vision screening to prep students in state, catholic and independent schools. They are supported by the PSNHRP HUB, based in Logan Central, to ensure consistent service delivery and the maintenance of service delivery data.

Your Opportunity

The purpose of this role is to provide clinical expertise and consultancy through advanced clinical leadership relevant to the speciality of primary school nursing and universal screening services. The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) provides direct and indirect care as required and works in collaboration with the Nurse Unit Manager, Nurse Educator and wider health care team support the clinical unit in provision of safe quality healthcare through exemplary clinical nursing standards of practice for the specialty of universal vision screening.
