About The Department

Specialist Clinics provide over 75,000 non admitted patient appointments per year across 20 different medical and surgical specialties, and receive 30,000 new referrals per annum. Specialist Clinics provide a gateway to the hospital for patients requiring elective surgery and ongoing chronic disease management. Our major referral base is via General Practitioners from all areas of Victoria.

About The Role

The responsibilities are isolated to the nursing requirements of the clinics on the day such as attending to the coordination/flow of clinics and clinical duties within the clinics (e.g. dressings, plaster management, management of patients with complex needs from high care facilities, light testing etc.).

Classifications for this position will range between YP3 - YP11 ($67,236.00 - $89,902.80 per annum - pro rata for part time)

Duties
  • Coordinates the flow of all patients through Specialist Clinics on the day of their appointment
  • Provides clinical oversight to patients waiting for their appointment
  • Regularly updates patients throughout the clinics in regards to flow
  • Attends to all clinical requirements of the patients in Specialist clinics (dressings, plaster
  • management, patients with complex needs from high care facilities, light testing etc.)
  • Liaise with Clerical, Medical and Allied health staff in clinics
  • Supervise and support staff and work flow
  • Ensure the patients are discharged with a clear plan
  • Liaises with Case Management team regarding discharges and failed to attend patients
  • Assists Case Management team as necessary with monitoring and audit processes in relation to the Specialist Clinics Access Policy
  • Be familiar with and work in accordance to the Specialist Clinics Access Policy principles

Qualifications, Skills And Experience
  • Bachelor of Nursing, which meets the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Current Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia through AHPRA
  • Extensive nursing experience that reflects a high level of skill and clinical knowledge
  • Extensive experience in caring for patients with complex dressings and chronic wounds
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and capacity to effectively prioritise
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with patients, visitors and staff at all levels
  • Highly developed written & verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to assist and support change
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to continuous quality improvement
  • Commitment to ongoing education and professional development
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills
