About Department

Depaul House (DPH) is a 12 bed Community Residential Alcohol and Drug Withdrawal unit located in Fitzroy, Melbourne. The unit provides a medically managed withdrawal from a variety of substances including Opioids, Alcohol & Methamphetamine (etc.)

Average length of stay is 7-10 days, during which time clients are provided with a range of medical intervention, treatment and investigation.

Depaul House sits under St Vincent’s Hospitals Department of Addiction Medicine. The Department of Addiction Medicine (DoAM) is recognised as a key treatment centre for the community management of substance using clients, offering the most current and evidenced based response under a number of domains including clinical practice, research, education & training (at undergraduate, postgraduate and community levels) advocacy and policy at both institutional level and Departmental level.

About The Role

In partnership with the Manager of DoAM and the Nurse Unit Manager of Depaul House the Access and Engagement Coordinator (A&EC) will divide their allotted EFT between daily operations associated with Access\Intake functions and the coordination of the unit activities (including the Group Program) for clients of the Community Residential Withdrawal Service. Access \ Intake operations will be undertaken in concordance with occupancy targets set for us by the Department of Health with an aim to be of the highest standard of clinical and professional practice. The Access & Engagement Coordinator will therefore work closely with the Addiction Medicine team that provide medical governance and support to DPH. The focus and function of this is to ensure continuous adherence to best medical practice and promote a cohesive, multidisciplinary approach to care for our clients accessing the withdrawal services. The A&EC will also work very closely with the Severe Substance Dependence Treatment Act (SSDTA) Co-ordinator around Access issues for clients attending the unit under the SSDTA.

In addition the Coordination of the unit program will involve oversight of therapeutic activity and group facilitation at Depaul House – coordinating a range of external facilitators to ensure delivery of a full programmatic schedule which provides clients with meaningful experiences and educational opportunities during their withdrawal.

Classification NP75 - NP77 ($98,800 - $109,200)

Duties
  • Lead the daily management of Intake and related duties for the unit
  • Develop and maintain effective linkages within the broader Alcohol & Other Drug sector (AOD) to ensure optimal continuity of care between other care providers such as Rehab, Community Teams, Emergency Departments, Corrections, Legal Services, Housing Supports and Mental Health
  • Communicate with all relevant nursing, medical, allied health, administrative staff and other key stakeholders to achieve operational requirements and ensure activity targets are achieved as per DHHS guidelines
  • Development & management of a structured therapeutic program offering a range of activities to support clients in withdrawal
  • Formalise partnerships with community agencies such as Alcoholic Anonymous, Assistance Animal Therapy Services and Holistic practices to set up paid & voluntary consult arrangements which will enhance our program

Qualifications, Skills And Experience
  • Degree in Nursing which meets AHPRA registration requirements and/or the related regularity body (SW/OT)
  • Post-graduate qualification in AOD/Addiction/Mental Health or related area
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in AOD or a Mental Health setting
