Canberra Health Services (CHS) is focussed on the delivery of high quality, effective, person centred care. It provides acute, sub-acute, primary and community‐based health services, to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT)—a catchment of approximately 400,000 people. It also services the surrounding Southern New South Wales region which includes the Bega Valley, Bombala, Cooma-Monaro, Eurobodalla, Goulburn, Mulwaree, Palerang, Queanbeyan, Snowy River, Upper Lachlan Shire and the Yass Valley.
CHS administers a range publicly funded health facilities, programs and services including but not limited to:
  • The Canberra Hospital: a modern 600-bed tertiary hospital providing trauma services and most major medical and surgical sub-specialty services.
  • University of Canberra Hospital Specialist Centre for Rehabilitation, Recovery and Research: a dedicated and purpose-built rehabilitation facility, with 140 inpatient beds, 75-day places and additional outpatient services.
  • Four Walk-in Centres: which provide free treatment for minor illness and injury.
  • Six community health centres: providing a range of general and specialist health services to people of all ages.
  • A range of community based health services including Early Childhood Services, Youth and Women’s Health, Dental Health, Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Services.
Overview of the work area and position
This position reports to the Operations Manager, Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) and is responsible for the efficient implementation of equipment management programs for a broad range of clinical equipment and systems, including assisting the clinical and nursing staff in effectively and safely utilising these devices and systems.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:Mandatory:
Prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:
  • Undergo a pre-employment National Police check.
  • An approved Technical or Professional qualification or relevant training and experience.
  • Previous experience working in a clinical setting.
  • An understanding of how the National Standards and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
  • Ability to fulfil the responsibilities of this role as detailed in the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.
Under direction from the Operations Manager, HTM you will provide technical support to clinical clients regarding Healthcare Technology matters and medical equipment management. You will be based within the ICU department.
  • Assist the Clinical Staff with the management of medical equipment, including procurement, safe and proper application, maintenance and disposal by approved methods.
  • Using manufacturer’s guidelines, inform and assist staff in the clinical area on the safe and proper application of medical devices.
  • Assist with medical equipment project work that is relevant to clinical area.
  • Assist with the isolation and/or identification of equipment in the clinical area affected by recall/safety/correction notices released by statutory bodies and vendors as requested by Operations Manager, HTM.
  • In conjunction with HTM create and report on a comprehensive routine maintenance schedule for all medical equipment in the clinical area.
  • Liaise with vendor representatives to support trial, evaluation and purchase of medical equipment.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the section.

1.Ability to interpret written information and advise on the application of medical equipment in a specialist clinical setting.
2.Ability to supervise, manage and contribute to the on-going education and updating of colleagues on the use of medical equipment.
3.Demonstrated ability to facilitate the safe use, evaluation and purchase of medical equipment. Assist in clinical research and equipment-related project work.
4.Demonstrated experience or ability to undertake operator maintenance, assembly, and performance verification of a wide range of medical equipment and systems. Including well-developed problem solving, time management and organisational skills.
5.Demonstrated commitment to Work, Health and Safety (WHS) and the positive patient experience and behaviour consistent with ACT Health’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
