Head Of Marketing & Growth

affix - Melbourne, VIC

Health, Medical & Pharmaceutical

After a lengthy stint in the UK, I had returned to Melbourne to much merriment and fanfare. The prodigal son had returned! My future wife in tow wanted to explore and see what Melbourne had to offer. With time on our hands, she had stumbled upon this “broadsheet” thing. That sounded too much like an instruction manual so, I wasn’t interested.

I know what I am doing. I’ve built loads of Ikea stuff before. I grew up here, I knew where the cool places were. It was all stored away in my memory.

But, dear reader, it seemed that times had certainly changed. Kevin Sheedy was not the coach anymore. Jeff was no longer our purple, sleepy friend. And I’m sad to say, all the bars I had frequented and loved in my 20s were but a mere shadow of their former selves.

It was time to read the bloody instruction manual. And… we’ve never looked back. Thanks, Broadsheet! *wink and cheesy toothpaste ad smile*

Anywho, we have this role and it is kind of a big deal. It is very much like growing the start-up arm of a well-known and recognized brand.

Broadsheet are launching a membership/subscription arm to the business. This is the gig that will be leading and building it. You will have P&L responsibility but you will also be close to the action, particularly when it comes to driving growth initiatives. You will have help, but there will be need to dip in and out when required.

What you have right now is a REALLY big audience and subscriber base, accessing and engaging with the content that Broadsheet creates. The challenge isn’t necessarily growing the audience alone (yes, that helps) but how do you nurture existing, engaged users from free content to paying a subscription for a new membership product/experience?

Not only that but, who are the customers and what do they value? You’ll work with the business to define, establish and grow the product. Define success, product roadmap and offering, customer journey and growth strategies. Lead the team and execute.

It’s a newly created gig and a bloody important one too.

So, who do you need to be?

You’ve done this kind of thing before and in similar environments. Broadsheet might be hugely successful and well known, but the culture and way of working is still very much akin to a lean, fast-paced start-up. You are comfortable managing up to Founder/C-Level. Management of P&L, leading and building teams. Driving growth with a new business unit, product and organization in this capacity is essential. Oh, also, you haven’t been so removed from the “doing” that you can’t roll the sleeves up when needed.

Also, bonus points if you know why they called it Broadsheet. Because… I haven’t asked them yet.

If this all sounds great and you’re intrigued and interested and want to know more about the role or which bars I used to go to that just aren’t cool anymore? Apply and say hi!
